William James Ligon age 80, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023 while under the care of Atrium Health Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was born in Charlotte, NC on November 21,1943 to David & Gladys Ligon at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. North Carolina. Known as 'Bill' to his family and friends, he attended Harding High School in Charlotte and became a diesel service technician with Bobby McILroy at Southern Truck Service in Charlotte for the majority of his working career.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents David & Gladys Ligon, his sister Judy Dingman and his brother Tommy Ligon He is survived by his wife Yvonne Ligon, his sister Joyce Ligon his daughter Mary Jenkins and her husband Jason, his son Mark Ligon and his wife Karen, his daughter Elizabeth Ligon his daughter Jackie Belk and her husband Rick, his son Mike Tolley and his wife Megan, six grandsons, Eric Jenkins, Cameron Ligon, Richie Belk, Max, Penn and Luke Tolley. One granddaughter, Karsyn Ligon. as well as many nieces and nephews with their children.
Bill loved to play the guitar and sing Bluegrass Gospel music with a multitude of people over the years, including his band Pinetuckett. He provided numerous decades of service to his beloved church family from Garr Memorial/Greater Life Church. He and his wife are current member of Golden Acres Baptist Church of Stallings.
Services will be held at Golden Acres Baptist Church, 15809 Lawyers Rd, Stallings, NC with a visitation on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 10:30 AM. A service will follow at 11;30 AM. Pastor Bruce Pope and Pastor Randy Briscoe presiding. Burial at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC. Arrangements are entrusted to Life and Legacy Funerals and Cremations,6525 Old Monroe Rd, Indian Trail, NC. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Golden Acres Baptist Church.
