Thomas Jackson Obituary

Mr. Thomas (Tommy) Caldwell Jackson, 86, of Monroe, passed away in his home Tuesday, December 29, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born Wednesday, September 26, 1934 in Charlotte, NC to Orin F. Jackson, Sr. and Clara Baker Jackson. On Saturday, January 26, 1957 he married his wife of 62 years Edna Butler Jackson who preceded him in death on November 16, 2019.

Mr. Jackson honorably served in the United States Army Reserve Infantry from 1957-1963 in Fort Jackson, SC. He was employed with Boring & Tunneling Company as a Boring Operator and Foreman for 25 years before starting his own Jackson/McDonald Backhoeing business until his years of retirement.

Anyone who knew Tommy Jackson loved him. With his quiet humble demeanor and generous heart, he was always willing to give anyone a helping hand. He was the true meaning of a “family man” who after working long hours and having to work out of town during the week he devoted his time to his family who was his central core. He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips, teaching them boating and water skiing at the river house on weekends, horseback riding, traveling to the mountains and beach, working in his shop and restoring his 1967 Pontiac Le Mans Classic. Tommy was always there to support his children and grandchildren at ballgames, music/dance recitals, Baptisms, parades and anything his family was involved in. As a child he was christened and later baptized at Southside Baptist Church in Charlotte. He was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church in Indian Trial. For 86 years, we were so blessed with this precious creation from God for this wonderful, loving man who we are honored and proud to call Dad.

Left to cherish his memory: children Thomas Michael Jackson (Dinara); Kimberly J. Stines (Gary), Daniel L. Jackson (Sandy) and Amy J. Knight; siblings Orin F. Jackson, Jr., Carolyn J. Skidmore and David Jackson; grandchildren Joshua Stines, Anna-Marie Stines, Alexandra Jackson, Isabella Jackson, Mike Jackson, Jody Betterton and Tracy Jackson; great grandchildren Julie Stines, Celia Marie Stines, Jake Jackson, Jordan Jackson, Alayna Moyer, DJ Betterton; great-great grandchildren Mason Jackson and Sadie Massa and the caregiver for Tommy and Edna, Nancy Parra.

His wife Edna Jackson; parents Orin F. Jackson Sr. (Audrey) and Clara Baker Jackson; brother Larry G. Jackson and sister Jeanette J. McDonald preceded him in death.
