Lula Gwendolyn Cooke, age 86, was born Friday, February 18, 1938, in Lenoir, North Carolina, to Fred and Orilla Dover and passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, while under the care of Novant Health, Matthews, surrounded by the ones she loved dearly.
Gwen was a lady with impeccable taste. Her very appearance was evident of that trait. Her clothing and home were always in perfect order. She loved crafts, needlepoint, as well as working in her yard. Gwen was quick-witted and those who knew her appreciated her unique sense of humor. She loved her family, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William (Bill) Cooke, a brother, Fred Dover, and a sister, Betty Ann Featherstone. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bob Cooke, Dede Rushing and her husband Andy, Leslie Milanese and her husband Rich. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Anderson and her husband Eric, Whitney Smith and her husband Chris, Brian Sasser, Andrea Johnson and her husband Guil, Jaclyn Buchkoski and her husband Devin, Marlee Cooke
and her fiance Mitch Miles. Also left to cherish her memory are nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
