Lawrence Rufty Chandler Jr., age 81, was born June 3, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to Lawrence and Sarah Chandler and passed away peacefully while in the care of Novant Hospital Matthews and surrounded by the ones he loved dearly.
Lawrence, known as "Larry" was a man who loved reflection and quiet time. However, he was an avid Wolf Pack fan. He had a masters degree in Nuclear Physics. He loved watching movies and reading. He had an ongoing desire to watch and discuss the movement of the stock market. He absolutely loved his family and had a true gift of keeping up and being involved in their lives. He was incredibly generous and was a true believer in giving back which led him to volunteer for the United Way in Aiken, SC for over twenty years. After he moved from the area he then became the president of his homeowners association in which he made it his goal to get to know everyone and they him.
Larry is proceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Catherine Appleyard. Left to cherish his memory is his brother, John Chandler and his wife Debbie. He also leaves behind three nephews, Todd Appleyard and his wife Mia, Scott Appleyard and his wife Stacy, Nathan Chandler and his wife Kassie and his niece, Leighanne Potts and her husband Brad and his brother in law Jim Appleyard. Also left to cherish his memory are several great-nieces and nephews.
