Mr. George Ivan Roberts, Jr., 68, of Sophia, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 28, 2020 while surrounded by his family. George was born January 16, 1952 in High Point to George Ivan Roberts, Sr and Jackie Brown Roberts. George graduated High School at the Hargrave Military Academy of Chatham, Virginia and then received his Bachelors of Arts from University of North Carolina, Greensboro in Mathematics and Photography. His professional career was spent as a Commercial Photographer for Furniture Manufacturing facilities. On Saturday, February 6 ,1999 George married his true love, the former Patti Jo Higdon and they enjoyed 21 years of marriage.
George was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church of Trinity where he served as a trustee and following his retirement, he would meet with the Methodist Men early Friday mornings for breakfast and fellowship. His fondest memories were spent with his wife Patti and their son Austin. They would travel together to see many wonderful sights throughout God's creation. George enjoyed fishing and farming with Austin and truly building a special bond. He was a Civil War reenactment actor and enjoyed meeting others with like interests.
Left to cherish his memory: his beloved wife Patti Roberts; son Austin Roberts; mother-in-law Betty Jo Higdon; sister-in-law Charma DeWitt and husband Charlie; nephews who he treated more like sons, Skylar Higdon, Shannon Reynolds and Cheyenne Reynolds and his neighbor and close friend Sharon Welch. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Ed Higdon.
A Celebration of Life service will be 1:00pm Saturday, July 11, 2020 in the sanctuary of Mt Vernon United Methodist Church; 9931 Archdale Rd, Trinity, NC; with Pastors Bryan Craddy, John Langdon and Clay Cox officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on the grounds of the church.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Randolph County; 416 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC; or to Mt Vernon United Methodist Church.
