Elizabeth Ann M. Williams, born on August 23, 1939, passed away peacefully at her home on May 7, 2023, with her daughter and friends by her side.
While her name was Elizabeth, everyone affectionately knew her as "Ann." Ann was born to Burchard and Anna Marshall in Norwich, CT. She was educated in the Norwich Public Schools system and graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing in 1961 with a B.S.N. With her former husband, Ann settled in North Haven, CT, began a 41-year career as an R.N. with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and raised her family. During her retirement, she relocated to Stallings, NC.
Ann’s family meant everything to her, and she took great pride in sharing in their accomplishments in life. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert T. Williams and Vernita R. Williams, and her beloved granddaughters, Corinne and Elanna Williams.
When not with her family, Ann devoted her time to her faith and community. She was a member of Rock Hill AME Zion Church (Indian Trail, NC), Melody Makers, the Red Hat Society, NANBPWC, Inc., and several other civic and cultural organizations.
Ann loved Westerns, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, documentaries, reading, traveling, and anything that had to do with nature. Always social, she kept regular activities with a wide range of friends. Her life reflected a remarkable aptitude for learning, connection, care, and concern for others.
Ann is predeceased by her parents; her brother, Edward Marshall; sister, Charlene Goldson; ex-husband, Robert C. Williams; daughter-in-law, Denise Williams; and members of the Marshall and Williams extended families. She is survived by her sisters, Carol Marshall and Deborah McClellan, sister-in-law, Myrtle Williams, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Williams family would like to thank Dr. Tesfaldet T. Michael, Dr. Gordon Reeves, and Jill Yandle, AGNP, the entire nursing and caregiving staff of the ICCU at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center, and Novant Hospice for the wonderful care provided in her final days.
To celebrate Ann’s life, family and friends will gather on June 10, 2023 starting with a visitation from 12:00-1:00 pm, immediately followed by a 1:00 pm memorial service in the Good Shepherd Chapel of Life and Legacy Funeral Home located at 6525 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079.
Life and Legacy is humbled to have been chosen to service the needs of the Williams Family during this most difficult time.
