Barbara House Obituary

Ms. Barbara Lulu May Hutoff House, of Charlotte, passed away on her 81st birthday, Sunday, May 3, 2020 in the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center of Matthews. She was born May, 3, 1939 in Melrose Park, Illinois to Frank and Catherine Scott Hutoff. Her parents, brother Frankie Hutoff and son Matthew Stair preceded her in death.

Ms. Barbara loved life, laughter and spending time with her family and friends. She was always smiling and happy; sewing and reading books from the library were some of her favorite things to do. Her first grandson Calvin gave her the name Grandma Bebop: energetic (hence the name), loving, kind, funny, non-judgemental, smart, beautiful, inquisitive, creative, and adventurous. She went to help her son in Singapore and travelled to Australia & Switzerland and then she bopped about on her own to Germany to find relatives she had never met! She was our hero and role model on how to be a good person. She was that kind, loving and non-judgemental person. She loved being creative & energetic with her Grandchildren. She treated her nephew & nieces like her own children. She was one of a kind and anybody that knew her was truly blessed. If you had a problem she was there to listen and help in any way she could. She would always encourage people to seek education whether classes or reading and studying books. She taught home economics in school until later becoming a school counselor. She truly lived life to its fullest; always having fun.

Left to cherish her memory: her children Mark Stair and wife Karen, Mary E. Thompson and husband Marc and John Stair and wife Tina; grandchildren Calvin Stair and wife Andrea, Kaitlin Stair, Lauren Stair, Bailey Thompson, Amber Thompson, Brian Gipson, Amanda Hayes and husband Jeffery; sister Ruth Wilkerson; nephew Greg Wilkerson; nieces Susan Coine, Amy Hutoff-Zufelt and Geraldine Rogers.

The family will gather privately at a later date.
