Angel Santiago Obituary

Angel Luis Santiago, 78, of Staten Island, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018. He was surrounded by loving family and friends.
Angel was born February 13, 1940, in Canovanas, Puerto Rico to Cruz Santiago and Luisa Dones. He was one of six children and had three brothers and two sisters, Raul, Sixto, Efrain, Adelaida, and Minerva.
Seeking a better life, he migrated to the United States in 1955 at the age of 15 and graduated high school. Since his arrival and until retirement, he worked in various industries throughout his career, beginning as a busboy and finishing as foreman of an industrial paint factory. Angel retired from Fine Paints located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at the age of 63 and enjoyed many years of retirement with his wife and family.
A few years after his arrival to the United States, he met his loving wife, Liliana Rosario. They married on December 22, 1962, and over the next fifteen years, had five children, all of which became college graduates and are successful in their respective careers.
Living most of his years in Park Slope, Brooklyn, Angel was a very active member of his community. He became a leader at his local church of St. Rocco’s and worked closely with Catholic leader to serve all members of the community. He represented the church at the Brooklyn Arch Diocese and was an active member of the Cursillista movement of Brooklyn and Queens. He also worked with local politicians in bettering the community. He was respected and loved by many.
One of his passions was playing the acoustic guitar at the church and in his free time. He especially loved the Christmas holidays and going to the homes of friends and family, spreading cheer by singing Spanish Christmas carols. His other passion was spending as much time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren; teaching each and every last one of them his favorite game of dominoes.
Angel is survived by his five children, Judith, Edward, Edgar, Diane and Andy; thirteen grandchildren and three step-grandchildren: Christian, Joshua, Steven, Angelia, Julia, Ashley, Rachel, Jorgito, Angel, Clara, Giorgio, Geraldine, Olivia, Stephanie, Debbie, and Samantha; 2 great grandchildren, Max and Ireland. He is preceded in his passing by his parents and two siblings, and his loving wife of 52 years, Liliana Santiago (January 2015).
