Alton Conover Obituary

Mr. Alton Paul Conover, 45, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020 at his residence. He was born July 29, 1975 in Plattsburgh, NY to James and Sherry Rabideau Conover. He married the former Buffie Canupp.

Alton left us way too soon. On a day that was meant to be spent with his loving family, became a day that his family would say “Good Bye” to this loving and gentle man.

Loving to work with his hands and to build things, he and his Father James would spend hours in the garage working on anything and everything mechanical. James could always expect the daily 5:00 am call from Alton as he would be headed to work. Alton married his sweetheart Buffie and cherished every moment he spent with her. Together they built a life and had two sons, Alton and Dylan. He was a family man in every sense of the word and prided himself on that accomplishment.

Lessons were a value to Alton and another trait that was instilled into him by his Mother Sherry. When he wasn’t teaching his sons how to build go-carts, he could be found out on the tracks cheering them on as they made laps with the carts they personally built. To Alton it was important to teach his sons life lessons that would follow them for the rest of their lives.

Alton was a person that they all look to for guidance and advice. A typical brother who loved to spend time with his other brothers and to formulate plans on how they would hurt any guy who hurt their one and only sister Cassandra. Then along came the baby of the family, Sheldon. Alton adored Sheldon and would always be there to give him great advice and to be every bit of the protector that a big brother should be.

Those he is leaving to cherish his memory are: his wife Buffie Conover; sons Alton Conover, Jr and Dylan Conover; parents James and Sherry Conover; siblings James Conover, Jr., Cale Conover and wife Janine, Cassandra Johnson and husband Joe and Sheldon Conover, several nieces and nephews and his father-in-law Wayne Canupp. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Rachel Dianne Skidmore.

Memorial Service will be  Thursday, September 24, 2020 in the sanctuary of Life Church; 1721 Charlotte Ave, Monroe, NC; with Pastor Billy Gowen officiating. The family will gather 1:00-1:45 prior to the service.
