Alexander Sunday Obituary

Alexander Sunday, age 79, of Indian Trail passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 while in the care of Atrium Health Medical Center West surrounded by his family.. Alex was born on February 12, 1943 in Fairmont, West Virginia, son of Alexander and Beatrice Sunday. After graduating from Morgantown High School, he earned his B.S. degree in Economics from West Virginia University and received his doctoral degree in 1975 from the University of Illinois. He was Professor of Economics at Indiana Purdue University from 1971 till 1979, and from 1971 on, Alex was also engaged in the field of economics research and analysis consulting with the energy and utility industry across the US.

These analyses included both end-use and econometric modeling analyses that specified price elasticity of demand and the effects of changing appliance efficiencies, relative fuel prices, conservation and other effects on electric consumption.

Alex forecasted the prices paid for utility service such as water, fuel oil, natural gas and electric for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration nationwide. His clients included the Wabash Valley Power Association with its Cooperatives, Public Utility District No. 1 of Chelan County of Washington, Seattle City Light and the People’s Counsel of the District of Columbia. Alex also testified before the Minnesota Energy Agency with respect to capabilities of alternative electric load forecasting methodologies

Besides his golf game and chess, Alex played the trombone, and studied the biblical message in the Community Bible Study program and evangelized prisons in Mecklenburg and Union County and also in Columbia, SC. As a Volunteer of Safer Communities and Emerge Ministries he became a spiritual mentor to many of the inmates. In 1984, when Alex had found himself personally called to the Ministry and accepted the peace that passes all understanding he found his life’s’ fulfillment through Jesus Christ.

In 1990 Alex married Beate, nee Helmke of Dortmund, Germany and had a wonderful marriage. They gave birth to a son, Christian Joshua, born on January 20th, 2004. From 2003 till 2007 Alex became Assistant Director in Siegen at the German Headquarters of the worldwide Wycliffe Bible Translator mission. Upon Alex’ return from Germany, Prison Ministry became Alex’ major life commitment as he watched his son with great joy and gratitude growing up to young manhood.

Alex had no fear of death as he passed with a radiant smile on his face: Alex having left us for eternity on the third of August, 2022, will be missed by all who knew him.
