June Connerat Obituary

June I. Connerat June 12, 1933 – March 19, 2019

June I. Connerat was loved by her family and friends. She died peacefully on March 19 in her sleep at the Pruitt Health Nursing Home in Monroe NC. June was a lighthearted, cheerful, and energetic person. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

June grew up in Greensboro NC raised by her Cherokee Indian grandfather and grandmother. She was one of four siblings. She excelled in school and in sports. She was a star swimmer and diver in college at Mars Hill College in Asheville. She later became an accomplished tennis player. She won the USTA NC Sate tennis championship 25 straight years. She won the Southern USTA championship multiple times as well in her long tennis career. She loved her tennis friends at the Olde Providence Racquet Club in Charlotte.

She was a successful business woman working at Wells Fargo in her later life. She was accomplished in painting and music as well. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with her now deceased husband Vince Connerat, playing tennis tournaments and being with her friend and family. We will truly miss her lighthearted personality, gentle smile and fierce competiveness.

She was a prominent member of the Mint Museum, USTA, Christ Episcopal Church, and the Charlotte Symphony.

We will always remember her as a wonderful role model and mother. She is now at peace.

She is survived by her son C. Robert Sheppard {Betty Hamilton}, daughter Gloria Sheppard Haar, grandchildren John Sheppard, Jessica Freeman {Brian}, Sally Avery {Thomas} and Frederick Haar III. She recently had a great grandson Sheppard Freeman.

Donations on her behalf should be made to The Charlotte Symphony or The Alzheimer’s Association.
