Mrs. Betty Joyce Huggins Sikes, 74, of Monroe, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 in the Harris Hospice of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center of Charlotte. She was born July 24, 1945 to James Pinckney Huggins and Lois Huggins Helms in Hartsville, SC. She married Percy Davis Sikes December 29, 1961. She was preceded in death by her husband, father James Pinckney Huggins, Step-Father Bryce Helms, and brothers Richard Van Huggins and Randy Huggins.
To cherish her memory are her mother Lois Helms, her son Michael Sikes (Lisa); daughters Sherry Rodgers (Jerry) and Monica Polk (Dwayne); grandchildren Corey Sikes, Cody Sikes, Chad Sikes, Justin Rodgers, Madison Polk, and Trent Polk; brother Charles Huggins and sister Shirley Parker; special neighbors Robert and Linda Hagler and their sons Todd and Andy; and Chloe Bell.
Betty was the caregiver to David during his illness until the time he passed. She loved her family very much, her daughter-in-law and son-in-laws were loved so very much. She and Mr. Sikes loved to "Cut a Rug" and listen to Elvis albums. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren watching tv shows, her favorites were "Law and Order", the Evening News and anything "Hallmark". She loved Lakeview Baptist Church, serving on Seniors Committees and cooking for families. She was a good cook making her “made from scratch” Pineapple and Coconut cakes. She loved the Christmas season, even her favorite color was red. She raised her children to love Jesus, Church and the Family of God. As a hobby she would play the piano and enjoyed ncard games with her neighbors.
Funeral Service will be 2:00pm Monday, December 16, 2019 in the sanctuary of Lakeview Baptist Church; 4602 Concord Highway, Monroe; with Pastors Steve Jirgal, Stephen Watkins and Billy Adkins to officiate. The family will receive friends 1:00pm-1:50pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
